The World I Came From
I grew up in a world where discipline, performance, and achievement were everything. Feelings were quieted. Success was the dinner-table language. That same conditioning shaped my career: computer science degrees, systems thinking, years leading projects in the corporate world. Structure and logic became my safety.
"Be silly."
Wait, what?
I had my hands on my heart, eyes closed, ready to meet the wisdom of my most radiant future self. I guide women through this practice all the time, yet this time I'd asked my mentor to hold space for me. To listen for what future me wanted to say.
And that was it. Two words.
"Be silly."
Before my mind could analyze, bubbles of laughter rose from deep within. Pure, spontaneous joy I hadn't tasted in years. Then, just as suddenly, the laughter stopped. A wave of seriousness flooded in, heavy and familiar.
Yet the very structure that kept me safe began to limit me.
My mind was always running. Analyzing, planning, perfecting. Believing that the more I did, the more worthy I became. I wore busyness like a badge of honor, filling my days with meetings and to-do lists, always achieving yet rarely breathing. Beneath the noise, my body kept whispering,
"There's another way."
On the outside, everything looked right. Inside, something was missing.
I had checked every box and still felt a quiet pull toward something deeper. That pull led me into energy healing, mindfulness practices, and guiding others through transformation. Yet a part of me still held on to control, afraid that letting go might make it all fall apart.
